Working on redesigning the app.

At Snaps!, my day-to-day activities consist of working on campaigns for the app, which entails me searching for various images, or creating them myself. I prepare them to become “AR”s, which are moveable and able to be placed on any image uploaded on the app. Recently, the COO said that I am very talented, and bumped me up to product design. This consists of rebranding the actual company, and designing the app itself. I am responsible for what the viewers will see and how they will interact with it. I work directly with the COO to scour the Internet for inspiration in order to make the app as aesthetically pleasing and functional as possible.

I have also witnessed how the office works as a whole. Each worker plays a key role in the development of the app. There is a lead designer, a lead graphic designer, a CEO who is always in meetings with representatives of companies or investors, a COO who oversees all office-related activities, and other workers who are responsible for social networking, scheduling meetings, coding, and all of the other in-betweens for the app.

My long-term goals for this internship are to eventually work here full time after graduating. My coworkers, the CEO, and COO have all realized my potential over the past month, and have given me more responsibility than I previously had. I hope to work here for a decent amount of time, to break into the design world. Being 22 and interning at a design firm in New York is not a bad start, but I see this as the beginning for me.

Thus far, I have learned many things. The transition from design school to the real world is a steep one. Clients, investors, and representatives can either be cooperative, or very rude and hard to negotiate with. I have seen the CEO deal with people who are very interested and understanding of the process, and investors who are skeptical and ask overbearing questions. Operating as a team to make something work is definitely a big factor in this job. Without one person, the app cannot work. We all act as separate, very important limbs for the application.
