Assistant Professor in Art, Rob Duarte, is currently the Artist in Residence at AS220 in Providence Rhode Island. AS220 is a nationally recognized non-profit arts organization that has revitalized the Providence art community and served thousands of artists over the past 30 years. While at AS220, Duarte will work within AS220 Industries (which houses AS220 Labs, AS220 Media Arts, and the AS220 Printshop) to create direct animation on 35mm motion picture film by laser etching. The project continues Rob Duarte’s exploration at the intersection of art, technology and craft. The project will culminate in a short animated film that references his research into the history of forced labor in the Florida turpentine industry.
