FSU Art Department Seeking OPS/Studio Equipment Technician

The Department of Art at Florida State University invites applications for a full-time OPS position to begin in April 2018 or soon thereafter.

The FSU Department of Art has labs serving all the discipline areas of the department – ceramics, digital media, photography, printmaking, sculpture, painting and drawing, and foundations.

Responsibilities

Performs regular maintenance activities on Departmental equipment for ceramics, digital media (except computer labs), photography, printmaking, sculpture, painting and drawing, foundations labs at FAB and CAB.

Coordinates delivery and installation of new equipment for ceramics, digital media (except computer labs), photography, printmaking, sculpture, painting and drawing, foundations labs at FAB and CAB.

Assists with Department’s equipment checkout procedures, personnel, inventory and physical organization of equipment available to check out.

Qualifications

High school diploma/equivalent and two years of experience.

(Note: a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to two years.)

Knowledge of the safe use, repair, and maintenance of tools typically used in art studios.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.

Ability to perform accurately in a detail oriented environment.

Ability to utilize problem-solving and technical skills.

Ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe working environment.

Preferred

Familiarity with art based equipment preferred. Please refer to art.fsu.edu/programs-2/media-areas for information about the department’s labs and equipment.

A technician with at least two (2yrs) years of experience maintaining equipment and tools in fine art and design laboratories and shops.

A quick learner and good problem solver, who works well with others and independently.

Proficient and knowledgeable regarding equipment in more than two studio areas, with some experience in other areas.

It is recommended that applicants include a resume and cover letter summarizing relevant qualifications.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
