Katelyn Shallue’s Artist Statement:
FSU Art BFA ’15 Katelyn C. Shallue: Graduating BFA Submission“Four Beasts” is a video installation of stop-motion animated figures that depicts The Four Living Creatures, angels, as described in the Book of Revelation. The work breathes life into these unseen ethereal beings, creating a private shrine for viewers to observe these unnerving yet magnificent creatures in a captive setting.
My work examines the innate human fascination with FSU Art BFA ’15 Katelyn C. Shallue: Graduating BFA Submissionmysticism and the ethereal through a marriage of digital and analog forms of art making. The movement created through the use of stop-motion animation can be disturbing and unnatural, quick paced and jarring. This visual element lends itself to conveying otherworldly atmospheres that range from residing within the human subconscious to being beyond mankind’s comprehension. I strive to create work that inspects mythology and the human psyche by revealing their both unsettling and sublime natures, creating a sense of wonder and curiosity
