Artist Sharon Norwood at the 50th annual NCECA conference, Mentors, Makers & Milestones 2016.

Sharon Norwood, MFA ‘18 was selected as one of 56 artists to have work presented at the 2016 National Student Juried Exhibition (NSJE). Mentors, Makers & Milestones opened at the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center in Kansas City, Missouri on March 4th as part of NCECA’s 50th anniversary conference.

The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) is an organization aimed at engaging and sustaining a community for ceramic art, teaching, and learning. The NSJE is a part of NCECA’s annual event and it showcases the ceramic works of full-time undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate students studying in programs across the United States. This year’s student exhibition saw over 600 works offered for consideration by 229 artists. The jurors ultimately selected 61 pieces by 56 artists for the exhibition: 36 graduate students, 16 undergraduates, and four post-baccalaureates.

The Exceptional Opportunity Award from the Department of Art helped Sharon to ease some of the financial burden directly associated with the cost of attending this prestigious event. At the conference, Sharon presented her work, met and networked with other artist, saw leading edge contemporary ceramic works, and participated in several educational lectures and workshops.

The Mentors, Makers & Milestones 2016 exhibition remains open until April 23rd, 2016
