Florida State University alums Chalet Comellas and Christina Poindexter will be showing, “In Relation To”, a light-based interactive sculpture. The public is invited to approach a round shallow pool of sand, illuminated with projected imagery. Viewers are welcome to manipulate the surface, building, distorting, and transforming the images projected.

About InLight Richmond

Organized by 1708 Gallery, InLight Richmond is a public exhibition of light-based art and performances. Each year, InLight invites artists to respond to a particular section of the city, attracting audiences to unique areas of Richmond. Monroe Park is this year’s selection, one of the city’s oldest public spaces, continuing the gallery’s tradition of highlighting histories and imagining the futures of Richmond’s most well-known spaces.

Over 6 years, 1708’s InLight has featured 169 local, national and international artists and art collectives across some of Richmond’s most unique neighborhoods and sites, from Broad Street to historic Tredegar to the Riverfront Canal Walk, and has engaged over 25,000 visitors.

This one night event will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 in Monroe Park and the surrounding streets, including the Altria Theater. The juror for InLight 2014 is Denise Markonish, Curator at MASS MoCA.

About Chalet Comellas & Christina Poindexter

In many works I re-invent existing materials such as clothing, textiles, and found objects. Items inherently imbedded with meaning that can tell a story through metaphor. My work is performative in nature and I incorporate my object making with an interdisciplinary practice. I also take pleasure in working with groups that set out to explore various perspectives on art making and social practice. – Chalet Commellas
