Bless Its Heart, Poor Dumb Thing (2012) Archival pigment Prints

“In this work, I focus on the gap between my memories of adolescence and the observations of my younger siblings and their friends. Adolescence is a moment of metamorphosis, a time of change that invites vanity, confusion, and vulnerability. And yet, to me it seems that some of these changes have sped up from when I was a teenager, things like sexuality and the very adult roles that are now adopted so young. I try to explore the gap between what adolescence always represents and those aspects that are so quickly evolving. This composition expresses an uneasiness with childhood fragmenting into adulthood.”
