Internship Opportunities In An Independent Motion Picture Marketing Company

The Torchlight Program will facilitate internships for the marketing, promotion and publicity of a major motion picture with notable and recognizable “star” talent directed by a veteran award winning and legendary director. I am looking for a select group of students to intern for me in my motion picture marketing company and work with me on this social media marketing project as well as on other important and interesting cinema throughout this semester. This film will truly be a strong addition to their resume for those students who participate in this internship experience. I will be recruiting interns with an interest in cinema and in social media marketing.

Students wishing to intern in the fall will have the opportunity to add an internship course, possibly for credit from their college.

I am currently offering a non-paying internship that will allow students the opportunity to participate in my professional entrepreneurial motion picture marketing and distribution activities.  This internship requires a minimum total weekly attendance of 15 hours, with commitment each week, with flexible hours agreed upon for each day, to accommodate your schedule. Additionally, the internship offers the opportunity for certain students to participate in group leadership roles if they are available to commit 20 or more total hours per week each weekday to the internship. I have been selected to work on the release and marketing of a number of new feature length films and other industry opportunities during this upcoming semester. This fall’s release line-up promises to be exciting for my interning students.

For example, interns in my company after being introduced through The Torchlight Program this past summer 2011 semester have had the opportunity to market on social media platforms; White Irish Drinkers, starring Karen Allen and Stephen Lang; Fubar: Balls To The Wall, starring Canadian cult film icons David Lawrence and Paul Spence; How To Live Forever; directed by Mark Wexler, son of Oscar winning cinematographer, Haskell Wexler;  Dislecksia: The Movie, directed by Harvey Hubbell V; Viva Riva, directed by Djo Munga,  MTV movie award winner,  Best African Film;  Bride Flight, directed by Ben Sombogaart; Midnight Movie: The Killer Cut, directed by Jack Messitt, starring Rebekah Brandes;  Jig, directed by Sue Bourne; Discover The Gift Project, created by Demian Lichtenstein and Shajen Joy Aziz; Programming The Nation?, directed by Jeff Warrick;  Strange  Frame: Love and Sax, special screening presentation at the Student Life Center with Jeff Dowd (The Dude).

DIRECTIONS: From campus drive 90 W to Commerce Blvd in Midway (Gadsden County), which is at the stoplight just after passing under I-10. Turn hard right (almost a U-turn) onto Commerce Blvd and stay right as you proceed around a winding road.  After you pass two new motels on your left you will see a blue-grey art deco building peeking above bushes on your left. Pull into the driveway and park in the upper-left parking lot.  Take walkway to glass doors located on the north side of the building. Last Fall:

The Torchlight Program has facilitated the production of a new music video with Actor/Director Stephen Baldwin , who was in Tallahassee to produce and direct the music video for recording artist  Cory Lamb. Florida State University students from film, dance and theater departments crewed and assisted in the production of Break the Cycle. The music video may be seen at:

The Torchlight Program at the College of Motion Picture Arts was created to educate students in current and emerging motion picture business practices with a focus on marketing, financing, and distribution strategies that have proven to be effective in releasing feature films. Through strategic relationships with industry professionals, The Torchlight Program facilitates unique internship opportunities, with industry, that provide students with hands-on experience at motion picture production and distribution companies.  For example, we recently arranged for a student to intern as an assistant to the director of 2011 Sundance World Cinema Audience Award winning film. Two students were also able to intern on the production of a feature film that was shot in Kigali, Rwanda entitled Kinyarwanda, directed by Alrick Brown.

We also work to identify internship opportunities for students to work with members of the esteemed faculty of professionals who teach at the College of Motion Picture Arts, many who are currently working on creative and professional projects in various stages of development, production, and distribution.

The Torchlight Program facilitates internship opportunities in the motion picture business that I believe students may find to be an interesting and meaningful addition to their fall 2011 schedules.

In October 2009, The Torchlight Program successfully launched a screening series called The Torchlight Film Series (www.torchlightfilmseries.com), which takes place at various times throughout the calendar year at exclusive communities on the Emerald Coast of Florida. One of the sites, Seaside, Fl. was the shooting location for the Jim Carrey hit, The Truman Show. Torchlight students joined me in presenting first run feature films at these communities, promoting the shows and organizing the behind the scenes work.  Working alongside the Film School staff, students have the opportunity to assist in the presentation of directors, talent, film critics, and guest speakers to the audiences of the 30-A communities of this region.

The Torchlight Film Series continued with the screening of several nationally acclaimed films. In July 2010 The Torchlight Film Series brought the Sundance Audience Award-winning film, FUELto the 30A beaches, where the screening of the film was followed by a Q&A with the director and producer Josh and Rebecca Tickell. In August 2010 the Semaine de la Critique du Festival de Cannes selection, The Myth of the American Sleepover, was screened followed by a Q&A with the director and the editor of the film, David Mitchell and Julio Perez. Finally, during the Fall 2010 semester students had the opportunity to screen selected clips of actress Lori Singer’s work including clips from films such as Short Cuts and Footloose. The audience was also able to engage in conversation with the star after the screening. This Series continues

Showcasing independent cinema in Jacksonville and Tampa, Florida as well (screenings in St. Augustine and other regions of Florida are being scheduled for 2011). Often, students are available to join me in presenting films as these screenings usually take place during the weekends and do not interfere with class. We are planning to re-visit a number of screening locations as well as develop new venues to screen feature films to expand the contemporary voice of independent cinema in Florida during this semester.

This year The Torchlight Program has once again invited Geoffrey Gilmore (former director of the Sundance Film Festival and currently Chief Creative Officer of Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Enterprises) to present a new feature independent film Win Win,  directed by, Thomas McCarthy at the 2011 7 Days of Opening Nights event in Tallahassee this past February.  Students were able to be part of the event and helped arrange and manage the presentation of this show made possible through The Torchlight Program.

The Torchlight Program anticipates it will continue to expand the voice of contemporary independent cinema in many of these established venues during the fall of 2011.
