The Department of Art at Florida State University invites applications for a full-time staff position to begin in August 2018. The FSU Department of Art is looking for someone that will manage undergraduate academic processes from admissions to graduation clearances for students, coordinates on behalf of the Department of Art for the 5 Year Combined BA in Art/MS in Art Education Degree Program with the Department of Art Education and the College of Education, and provides academic advising services.

Responsibilities

Serves as academic advisor to BFA and senior BA Studio Art students in the development of academic schedules appropriate for stated educational goals. Responsible for the maintenance of student records. Monitors registration stops for Art majors, D/F reports, pre-requisite checks, Upper Division certification, and non-major registration. Advises students in the Studio Art portion of the 5 Year Combined BA in Art/MS in Art Education Degree Program, including FL Teaching Cert Exams. Advises faculty, adjunct faculty, and graduate teaching assistants on registration issues, university and department enrollment and student affairs policies and procedures.

Facilitates the Studio Art portion of the 5 Year Combined BA in Art/MS in Art Education Degree Program, and acts as Art rep in meetings with the College of Education and Art Education to review policies and procedures. Works as a Department of Art liaison with Admissions, Registrar, and Career Center. Requests changes to the Student Central system / Academic Requirement Reports and MAP plans. Works with the College of Fine Arts (CFA) Dean’s Acad Program Specialist on admitting transfers, major changes, late registration, and graduation clearances for 60-80 students per semester.

Provides support to Undergrad and Foundations directors including but not limited to admissions, recruitment, orientation, scheduling, and processing of student reviews. Also, is ex-officio participant on the department Undergrad committees. Maintains and updates listservs.

Works in concert with the chair of the Dept of Art: to maintain and update undergraduate bulletins, keep the website aligned to the bulletin, and provide detailed information not available in the bulletins; to assess course demand; uses Business Intelligence (BI) and other data sources to support strategic planning; to manage course cancellation processes. Secondary course builder for department; responsible for building special courses such as Honors in the Major.

Other duties or special projects as assigned by Chair or CFA’s Academic and Student Services administration

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and 6 years of experience. (Note: post-high school education may substitute for experience at an equivalent rate.)

Experience in office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment. Knowledge of applicable computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Outlook or comparable software. Ability to interpret academic programs requirements and provide advice.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
